Why not just use ChatGPT?
You can, and for a quick explanation it may be all you need. ChatGPT's Study Mode, launched on July 29, 2025, is free on every plan, with quizzes, flashcards and memory. Gemini's Guided Learning (since August 6, 2025) and Claude's Learning mode (open to all Claude.ai users since August 14, 2025) are free too.
What Thought Pantheon adds is the method around the explanation, run the same way in every lesson:
- A plan you agree to. Your topic becomes small ideas, in an order where each one builds on the last.
- A check on every idea. You explain it in your own words. The AI says which key points your answer covered, the app works out the mark, and you see which points counted.
- A final check. An idea passes only when your answer covers all of its key points, over up to three rounds.
- Reviews on a schedule. Each idea comes back on your Today page with a new question, timed by an openly published model of memory.
All of this happens by default. In a chat, what happens next depends on the conversation. Here, the app runs the steps in order, so the tutor cannot skip a check or call an idea learned early.
The tutor here is an AI too. Its words come from a Claude model, made by Anthropic. About the AI says what it writes and what the app decides.
If you only want an answer, a chat is quicker. If you want to understand a topic and keep it, that structure is what you pay for. The sample lesson shows it step by step.
Can I try it before I pay?
Yes.
- Read the sample lesson. The sample lesson walks through the free demo lesson, with no account needed.
- Take the demo lesson. It is free with an account, uses none of your allowance, and works before you confirm your email.
- Use the free trial. Confirm your email and you get 1 lesson of tutoring on a topic you choose, for 14 days. No card is needed, and it never turns into a paid plan by itself.
What can I learn with it?
Any topic you choose. It suits ideas that build on each other, such as statistics, a programming language, economics or music theory.
It is not for medical, legal, financial or safety decisions, because the tutor can be wrong. It gives no certificates, and it is not for very recent events or quick answers.
How long does a lesson take?
It depends on the topic, and on how much you already know. A lesson usually covers 4 to 7 small ideas. Each is taught in a few minutes and checked with one question, then a final check covers them all. You can pause at any point, and your place is kept. The demo lesson takes about 10 minutes.
Reviews are shorter. Your Today page shows the ones that are due, with an estimate of the time they take. The sample lesson shows a whole lesson and a review, step by step.
Can an AI mark my answers fairly?
Every question comes with a few key points, usually two to four, set before you answer. Your tutor, an AI, reads your answer and says which of them it covered. The app works out the mark from that, the same way every time.
- You always see which key points counted, so you can check the mark yourself.
- The tutor cannot change a mark in the conversation.
- The AI judges your answer without being told how sure you said you were. Afterwards, a confident answer that turns out wrong is pointed out and tested again.
The AI can still misjudge a point. If a mark looks wrong, the answer below says what to do. The marking was designed by James Perrotta, who does assessment for a living. How it works has the rules for each kind of question.
Who is behind it?
Thought Pantheon is built and run by James Perrotta, a data scientist who builds measurement systems. James's background is in natural language processing, psychometrics and industrial-organizational psychology. Contact opens with a note from James on why Thought Pantheon was built.
How do I get an invitation?
We're letting in a small group of early learners first. To ask for an invitation, email help@thoughtpantheon.com.
If you have one, choose Have an invite? at the top of the page, and enter the code from your invitation.
How do I cancel, or get a refund?
Open Plan & usage from the account menu. It takes you to Stripe's page, where you confirm. Your plan stays until the end of the month you paid for, and nothing more is charged.
For a refund, ask within 14 days of a payment, with at least three quarters of its allowance unused, and we refund the whole payment. A charge made by mistake is always refunded. To ask, email help@thoughtpantheon.com. Plan & usage shows how much of each allowance is left. The terms set this out in full.
What happens when my allowance runs out?
Lessons with the tutor pause until your plan renews or you add a top-up, including one you have started. Your saved lessons, notes and topics stay, and reviews carry on: you mark your own answers against the key points. You are never charged for using more. Pricing has the details.
The marking looks wrong. What can I do?
You always see which key points were counted, so you can check the mark against them. The tutor cannot change a mark in the conversation, but you can ask it to explain a point.
A miss is not a failure: the idea is explained again. A miss in the final check, or in a review, brings it back sooner. If a question or its marking is plainly wrong, email help@thoughtpantheon.com with the topic and the question.
Why can't I see the lesson while I map it?
Because recalling it is the practice. Writing how the ideas connect without looking makes you rebuild them from memory. Looking back at the lesson would turn that into rereading, which does much less for memory. The lesson comes back after the final check.
What does the AI see, and what does it keep?
To write its replies, the AI provider (Anthropic Claude) is sent the topic, your answers and the lesson conversation. It also gets the titles of ideas you have learned, with notes on past mistakes. It is not sent your email address or payment details. Anthropic's commercial terms say it may not train its models on what this site sends it.
To plan a lesson, the tutor may also search the web about your topic. Anthropic runs the searches, with words its AI picks from your topic, your goal, what you said you know and your first answers. The plan then links the pages its ideas rest on. About the AI says what the provider keeps, and for how long.
Can I get my data, or delete my account?
Yes. In Settings you can download a backup of everything you have learned, and each topic page can download its notes. Settings also deletes your account, with every lesson and review. A deleted account cannot be brought back. Privacy says what is kept after that, and why.
I didn't get the email.
Look for an email from Thought Pantheon. It can take a few minutes, so check your spam or junk folder too. You can send it again from the reminder at the top of the page.
- Only the newest link works, so use the latest email.
- A link to confirm your address works for 3 days. A link to reset your password works for an hour.
- An account that nobody confirms or uses is deleted after 14 days.
Can I use it on my phone?
Yes, in your phone's browser. There is no app to install, but you can add the site to your home screen from the browser's menu.
Can I speak my answers instead of typing?
Yes. In Chrome or Edge on a computer, a microphone button may appear beside the box. Press it and speak, and press it again to stop. Your browser turns your voice into text on your device, and your voice is not sent to anyone.
Anywhere else, use your device's own dictation. It types into any box on the site:
- On a phone or tablet, press the microphone key on the keyboard.
- On a Mac, press the Fn key twice. Dictation is in System Settings, under Keyboard.
- On Windows, press the Windows key and H together.
These are your device's own features, so its maker's terms say where your voice goes. Privacy says what this site keeps.
How do I contact you?
Email help@thoughtpantheon.com. Say what you were doing, and quote the reference if an error message gave you one. Contact says who runs Thought Pantheon.
